Happy New Year and all that. Now that's out of the way, I want to share some cool stuff I have done over the last few weeks, now I have had the opportunity to play...!
As some of us do, I have had about 10 (never enough) days off of "work work" over the holiday period. This time has given me a great opportunity to sit in my man-cave at home and just make, create, code, disassemble, break and generally play. Also, bought a cool 30-year-old supercharged VW Corrado G60 on eBay - which seemed like a good idea at the time, but that's a different story!
Over the last few weeks, I have been playing with Bitcoin mining hardware as it exists on the market in its current form, notably the Bitaxe Ultra & the GekkoScience SmartHub. As some of you know, I wrote the software and all screen interfacing for the new GekkoScience Smarthub. I would like to think I know the Smarthub system pretty well. On that, I thought it would be a superb idea to get it to play Doom, the classic video game. So that's what I did. The Smarthub now plays Doom - and it plays really well - audio and all! Note: There will be a software release in due course that may have hidden Easter Egg in it. I expect someone will figure out how to activate it in due course, if it exists :)
Any Smarthub purchased from any supplier will have access to a lifetime of software updates so don't feel like you will miss out. You won't!
This time off from "work" has also given me an opportunity to play around and delve into the inner workings of the Bitaxe Ultra standalone miner. Using some sniffing techniques, I managed to intercept the data between the miner itself and the pool it mines to. Using this, I managed to get the Bitaxe to randomly flash Christmas lights by triggering relays and transistors every time a share over X value was submitted. I shan't go in to any more detail on this at present as it is part of a bigger project that I will bring to light in due course. The proof of concept worked... Watch this space!
I hope you all have a great 2024 and all acheive great things. Cheers! IAMGpio
